Unidirectional Prepreg

Unidirectional Prepreg

NTPT's approach to manufacture high performance prepregs

Enhanced mechanical properties

At NTPT, the production of unidirectional tapes is a precise and meticulous process. High-quality fibers, such as carbon or aramid, are carefully aligned in a single direction, ensuring optimal mechanical properties along the intended load path. This unidirectional arrangement provides unparalleled strength where it matters.

In-house materials production

The manufacturing process at NTPT emphasizes consistency and uniformity. Advanced machinery and control systems guarantee the precise alignment of fibers, resulting in tapes with minimal defects and exceptional structural integrity. The tapes can be customized with NTPT in-house resin systems to meet specific client requirements, offering versatility for a wide range of applications.

Tailored prepreg tape

Versatilty at NTPT can be seen in the range of different fibers associated with a wide choice of resin systems that can be used to make UD tapes with various thicknesses. Carbon, quartz, glass, UHMWPE, aramide, basalt, and flax fibers are part of NTPT’s prepreg portfolio. Dedicated resins offers different mechanical properties to suit project requirements.

Customizing UD prepregs: versatile options for diverse applications

NTPT specializes in a broad spectrum of UD Prepregs, offering a variety of thickness options ranging from 15gsm to 200gsm, measured by the mass of fibers per square meter. These prepregs incorporate a wide selection of commonly used fibers such as carbon, flax, quartz, glass, UHMWPE, aramid, and basalt. Moreover, NTPT possesses the capacity to process additional fibers to fulfill particular requirements, ensuring a tailored solution for diverse applications.

How to Select the
Optimal FAW ?

Opting for lower GSM in UD prepregs provides versatile design options, enabling the incorporation of various fiber orientations or material types within the same thickness. Alternatively, selecting thicker options can enhance lamination efficiency and manufacturing productivity while ensuring the advantageous properties of the prepreg are maintained.

The use of thin plies introduces the « thin ply effect, » delaying damage onset and providing up to 50% better ultimate strength compared to thicker plies. This delay also enhances fatigue resistance, surpassing a million cycles, while traditional thick plies may initiate cracks even at low stress. Thin plies maintain part integrity over time.

Slitting at NTPT: Precision for Tailored Composites

Slitting is a precise cutting process used by NTPT to create custom-width composite materials. This method ensures exact dimensions, efficient resource use, and flexibility to meet diverse industry needs. By employing slitting, NTPT achieves consistent quality, maximizes production speed, and adapts materials for specific applications in aerospace, marine, and sports industries.
